The “Pompidou Circus” exhibition at MuMo - Centre Pompidou opens its doors to you for a workshop tour!
The MuMo – Centre Pompidou is stopping off in Castellane for three days, from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 April. The art educators are running hands-on art workshops combined with a guided tour. Free and open to all (children and adults), these sessions offer an opportunity to engage with the works on display in the “Pompidou Circus” exhibition. These workshops will focus on the work of Matisse (cut-outs and collage) as well as on the poster designs by the typographer Cieslewicz. Several time slots are available by booking: - Monday 13 April from 10.00 am to 11.30 am - Tuesday 14 April from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm - Wednesday 15 April from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm The “Pompidou Circus” exhibition, conceived by the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou, aims to bring works from the Parisian museum’s collections out into the wider world so that as many people as possible can enjoy them. Drawing on the very idea of itinerancy, the travelling show and the caravan, and driven by a desire to bring together all audiences, the exhibition focuses on the theme of the circus. Many works from the Centre Pompidou’s collection explore this subject. The circus is depicted by Henri Matisse in cut-paper works and vibrant colours in his famous book *Jazz*. It is also the melancholic figure of the street performer, a character on the margins of society, brought to light by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Georges Rouault. Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Clowns and acrobats are the artist's doubles: thanks to them, reality and imagination intertwine. They master a thousand tricks, bringing laughter and dreams to the delight of the audience before finding themselves alone once the curtain falls. The circus is also, of course, a whole repertoire of animals. At MuMo, visitors will encounter horses and elephants, accompanied by tamers and riders; trapeze artists and harlequins; clowns and magicians. This gallery of characters invites visitors to step “through the looking glass” for a journey into the world of the circus.
