THE GRAND CANYON

DU VERDON

To start your visit to the Gorges du Verdon, we invite you to take the Route des Crêtes. This is undoubtedly the most accessible way to discover the Grand Canyon du Verdon. This is the highest and most vertiginous part of the canyon, perfect for getting a good view of the scale of this unmissable site. Its 14 lookouts reveal a mosaic of the most beautiful landscapes.

Speaking of scenery, Point Sublime is without doubt one of the finest vantage points in the region from which to appreciate the entrance to the Verdon Canyon. The view of the Couloir Samson, at the foot of the village of Rougon, will guide you into an uncharted universe, where the river has slowly sculpted the landscape over the ages. This narrow passageway is one of the most striking on the river, a veritable pearl of nature that won’t leave you indifferent.

Here, man cohabits with griffon vultures. This is one of the emblematic species of the gorges, easily observed from the Verdon lookouts and on hikes. We suggest you take the Blanc-Martel trail from the Chalet de la Maline, one of the best-known hikes in France and a must-see in the heart of the cliffs of the Grand Canyon du Verdon.

If you’re a climbing enthusiast, welcome to a veritable paradise. More than 1,000 climbing routes up to 700 m in height defy gravity and beckon you to take up the challenge. For hiking enthusiasts, let yourself be seduced by the winding trails that offer panoramic views at every turn. And if you’re a water sports enthusiast, the tumultuous Verdon will meet your expectations. Canoeing, kayaking, rafting, hiking… a myriad of possibilities awaits you.

Get ready to plunge into the world of the Grand Canyon du Verdon, where every nook and cranny reveals a new facet of this unique natural environment. Whichever way you travel, this place promises memorable experiences and a deep connection to a magnificently preserved natural environment.

WHEN TO COME?

Our advice

The best time to visit the Gorges du Verdon is from late April/early May to late October. We advise you to avoid July and August due to the high number of visitors. If you plan to go then, book your accommodation and activities several weeks or even months in advance.

Note that most activities, nautical or otherwise, are available from April to October. Outside this period, you can mainly explore the villages and go hiking.
