The play ‘Pas Tous les Hommes Quand Même’ at the Mouton Noir

Please note: this marvellous play leaves no one unmoved, which is why we think it’s only fair to warn you that it’s best suited to those aged 15 and over! I discovered Giulia Fois’s hard-hitting essay *Pas tous les hommes quand même* in August 2025, whilst sitting by Lake Esparron-de-Verdon. Throughout the book, I felt an urgent need welling up inside me to share this electrifying text. How many times have I worn myself out debating the reality of sexist and sexual violence in France, only to be met by women and men who would brush me off with the phrase “Not all men, though” #NOTALLMEN. Giulia Fois’s surgical analysis of how this little phrase acts as a systemic shield gave me a constant breath of fresh air as I read, and finally the hope of being able to create a breach in the thick wall of French silence surrounding sexual violence. I immediately rang two actor friends, Evelyne Licasale and Ludovic Crepet, to ask them to join me in this slightly mad dream of making this cry heard on stage and breaking the French code of silence. So, I bring our heartfelt words to life as they confront the brutality of the statistics in a incisive and scathing production, lit by my partner, Benjamin Fourgeaud. Together, we carry the echo of this essential essay as we collectively break free from denial in a patriarchal society where impunity and a culture of secrecy reign supreme.
